Volkswagen has a long history in motorsports. With our focus primarily on models you can see, touch and take for a test drive, it’s not our area of expertise here at Dirito Brothers Volkswagen. We can’t tell you how to increase the downforce on the 2019 VW Jetta or what it would take for you to comfortably drive it at 14,115 feet above sea level (not recommended). But when Volkswagen seeks to break a specific record, going so far as to name a model after the race itself, we’re interested. The results are in for the Volkswagen I.D. How fast is the Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak?

When we say that Volkswagen is setting out to beat a record, we don’t mean the brand is merely competing. If VW sets a goal, the brand puts its full effort into achieving it. So with Volkswagen throwing its hat into the ring for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a race it normally doesn’t compete in, there are certainly plenty of enthusiasts keeping an eye out. The Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak is a model that is specifically designed for this hill climb, and the goal is to beat the current record held by Rhys Millen of 8.57.118 seconds. So how fast is the Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak? Keeping in mind that speeds are tested on a flat track, the model is timed at 0-60 in 2.25 seconds. For perspective, Formula One race cars average 2.1-2.7 seconds. (more…)
