The Volkswagen Beetle is easily one of the most recognizable cars in the world, showing off with an iconic style that has stood the test of time. Year after year, the Beetle continues to hold on to its rich heritage, proving that sometimes it’s better to stand out than fit in. However, as important the past is to the Beetle, sometimes it’s necessary to add a little modernization via 21st-century conveniences to really give the driver an overall experience. Keep reading to learn more about what we can expect in terms of updates for the 2018 Beetle.
New Features and Specs for the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle
For 2018, the Volkswagen Beetle is offered with a standard automatic transmission with Tiptronic® in four trims—S, Coast, SE, and Dune. All 2018 Beetle models, both convertible and coupe, are powered by a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged, direct-injection TSI® engine that produces 174 hp (compared to the 2017 Beetle’s 170 hp), and has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating is 26 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway for S, SE and Coast models. Beetle Dune models have an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 26 and 34, respectively.
Drivers who appreciate comfort and convenience extras can now opt for their Beetle S to have a Style & Comfort Package at an additional cost, which offers a 6.3-inch Composition Media touchscreen infotainment display with SiriusXM® satellite radio; Volkswagen Car-Net® App-Connect, and Voice Control. Besides the sound system, the Style & Comfort Package also features a KESSY® keyless access system with push-button start, heated leatherette seats with lumbar adjustment, 17-inch “Philadelphia” aluminum-alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and much more.
Another update that we are excited about is the introduction of the new Beetle Coast trim. Modeled after the S trim, this stylish and sporty compact features a unique Deep Sea Teal exterior color option, a surfboard wood-look dashpad, cloth seating surfaces in “Pepita” houndstooth, Monster Mats®, scuff plates, a sunroof, and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert.
